Compare and Contrast, Operating Systems

•April 6, 2010 • 2 Comments

I’ve got a virus on my Windows operating system!”

What is Linux?”
“I’ve heard about Mac, but I haven’t really bothered to use it. Windows is cheaper.”

My plan today is to compare and contrast the different pluses and minuses to these operating systems. Hopefully with as little bias as possible. My experience will come primarily from a Windows operating system, but I have used all three of these, and I believe I can explain what makes each operating system worth your consideration.

Windows History:

I will start with the ever popular Windows. I will use this as the basis of my compare and contrast. The primary reasons for this is the fact that most everyone has used a Windows computer. Ideally you will be able to relate to the ups and downs of this operating system.

Microsoft’s first operating system was MS-DOS. This operating system was troublesome, however it had the positives of being fit into a compact computer. It was developed into Windows 1.0 in 1985. Windows took the operating system world by surprise. Bill Gates came from some garage and literally conquered the wold of operating systems. MS-DOS made way for a revolution that would change American history.

Reader’s Tip: An operating system is the software interface. It’s completely separate from your physical computer, and should not be considered the same. If someone says they have a Windows computer, that simply means their computer is running a Windows operating system. Operating systems are installed directly from the factory, and can be changed if the consumer so desires.

Sixteen years and several upgrades of Windows later wields the most common and widely used version of Windows…XP.

Sources For History: myself and http://www.microsoft.com/windows/winhistorydesktop.mspx

Random Fact: XP stands for experience, and was properly named.

Windows, Contrast:

There is an extremely large number of average consumers, and companies using Windows XP. The reasons for this being the fact that Windows computers are fairly affordable, and pliable. Pliable, meaning you can get them to do anything with the proper amount of money and knowledge.

Another positive for Windows, is the fact that if you have enough patience and endurance, you can find virtually anything for free.

A positive in itself is the fact that Windows XP is so highly recognized, you can go anywhere and expect a Windows XP to be present.

Negatives In-A-Nutshell:

It has the ability to go wrong for no reason, and has virus problems to the moon.

Linux History:

Linux was developed by Linus Torvalds who wanted to improve MINIX which is another operating system based off of UNIX. He decided that he wanted to share his [operating system] free [also] known as copyleft. It was not long before it was able to support its self and he named it Linux. His friend came up with a logo for it which was a penguin named Tux. After a while, several people wanted to help out and make this operating system so better to the point where it could complete [compete] with [Windows] and Mac. Linux will always be free and open source and Linus Torvalds will always make sure that happens.”
I apologize for quoting, but I would not have been able to say that any better if I had tried. I say this with all honesty. I also apologize for the brackets, the author had some problems with his thesis, I informed him of his errors, and corrected them for my paper.

Sources For History: myself and http://www.associatedcontent.com/article/2809458/what_is_linux_and_the_history_behind.html

Readers Tip: Because there are so many variations of Unix, and Linux, I will refer to them all as if they were one operating system. Also, because Linux and Unix are very similar, I will refer to them both as Linux. The key difference is simply the fact that Unix cost money, and Linux does not.

Linux, Contrast:

Simply the fact that it is not the monopoly known as Windows has many people jumping out of their chairs. To add to this Linus Torvalds is not at all controlling. Unlike Windows, Linux does not charge huge sums of money, nor does it worry about copyright issues.

Because Linux is far differently than Windows, it has less virus problems.

Linux is free. If you can find a computer that already has it, then you cut off about one hundred dollars. If you want to switch from Windows to Linux, then it’s fairly painless.

Linux is widely known for its use in web operating systems, as it’s free, and serves the purpose.

Negatives In-A-Nutshell:

Applications are quite different then Windows, so running and installing them can be quite the chore. The compatibility between Windows and Linux is close to none.

Macintosh History:

Apple was the first to mass develop a GUI (Graphic User Interface) operating system. Apple soon after came out with their personal operating system,Macintosh. Macintosh has been known sense it’s beginning for being high powered, and user friendly. Macintosh was birthed in 1984, and has lived on ever sense. Apple has battled Microsoft sense Microsoft first showed its face. Apple has always been in some sense better, but has always been more expensive.

Sources For History: Me, myself, and I….and maybe some Wikipedia

Macintosh Positives:

Macintosh has little to no virus problems. This is because Macintosh governs over its operating system vary carefully, insuring that all is well.

Macintosh computers are very high powered, and most of the time can do better than computers with default Windows.

If one goes all Macintosh, your devices will work very well together. I personally have been amazed at their ability to interact with other every day electronics.

Negatives In-A-Nutshell:

Macintosh is expensive and somewhat restricting.

To summarize this paper my summary would be this:
To the average consumer, go with Mac.

To the computer extreme, go with Windows.

To the companies and Windows hater, go with Linux.

If you don’t like being controlled, Mac is not for you.

If you don’t like constant maintenance, Windows is not for you.

If you don’t like

Were you worth it?

Trick question:
Were you worth dying for?

Now I’m ideally getting readers from everywhere so allow me to explain. I believe in Jesus Christ, and in that belief, I believe that Jesus came to earth as a human being, and died on the cross to pay for our mistakes.

So getting back to the question, were you worth dying for?
NO!
If you answered yes then you either have a pride problem, or you are not listening to the same music I am right now.

What have you ever done to deserve life?
…Really?
…How fascinating?
…Please tell me more?
…Ok, Ok, I’m about to shortcut you to Heaven right now, you’re just perfect aren’t you.

Now for the sake of explanation, imagine yourself standing in front of a perfect being, PERFECT! He is full of love, and kindness, and he says you’ve been naughty…
…Well don’t just stand there! Tell Him the same thing you just told me. Tell Him how you helped those little orphans, or went to Sunday school, or washed your dads car.
Wow! Do I need to do the talking for you?
God, this guy can go to heaven because he washed his dads car. I’m glad you died for him, I don’t know WHAT we would have done without him. I mean really, what would we have done without washed cars. We’d probably have to walk.

Are you catching my point? Is it hitting you? If not, you STILL have a pride issue. At this point, if you aren’t understanding you should finish up this post and go watch American Idol.

The point is you DON’T deserve to live. What have you done to earn life? In this earth with millions of different people, what have you done to contribute to your life?
…Wait, I didn’t know you volunteered at that Church across the street, wow, that changes everything.
…Wait, Wait, you do WHAT?
HOLD ON! Lord, this guy preaches in front of hundreds, surely HE can go to heaven. I mean come on, without him we’d be at home watching some playboy videos, with our drunk buddies. He is SO shaking this world.
Wait, Wait…*Sam listens to God talking*…Ya, ah ha, ya, REALLY, YOU DON’T SAY, I had NO idea.
God says you can’t get to Heaven.
“Well help me out man, what can you do about it?”
Nothing,
“What then I’m screwed”
Yep, sucks for you man,

Well there is that one thing.
“WHAT?!”

I guess if you felt up for it
“ANYTHING?!”

You could admit, out loud, to God, that you’ve done buck NOTHING!
“Ok, sure, God I’ve done squat in this life, nothing worth being saved.”
…long pause
“Now what?”

Well, honestly, that’s about it.
“Really?”

Yep
“But what did I just do?”

Well, you told God that you’re worth squad. If we said [Your_Name] = Money, we’d come out with negative digits. And by doing this you’ve given your life to Christ.
“What if I wanted to give it to Alah”

Do I need to spell it out for you. Are you a MORON?!
“But why not Alah?”

Did Alah die for you?
“No, but he was a profit”

OH! So kind of like you after you washed your dads car?
“Being a profit is a bit different than washing your car”

Is it?
“…”

Whether you wash your car, pee in the toilet, or preach to hundreds. You’re still performing what us English buffs call a verb.
“I’m lost”

ahhhhhhhhh………….. God is above verbs. He MADE verbs
“So what then shall we do? To earn are eternal life”

You’re STILL missing it, there is NOTHING you can do. Simply by turning your life over to Christ, and accepting HIM as your safety, your way out, your cheat sheet. You then gain eternal life.

Motives

•February 5, 2010 • Leave a Comment

This one is more of a phenomenon, and ideally a lesson for those of you who don’t already know this. Every decision is birthed off of motive, with that said we can hardly way people off of the decisions they make, rather we can use their decisions to assume their motive, off of their motive we can then begin to understand them more.

This is incredibly important, and I really want you to grasp this. What little I just stated is the key to unlocking anyone.

I’ve got an example to prove my point, but you have to promise not to freak out. Promise?

Hitler. Many say he was simply insane and leave it at that. But to do so is falling so much short of the truth. Yes he obviously had a couple screws loose, but if you think about it, he was really a genius turned astray…
…Now calm down…put your socks back on…take a breath, and let me explain…

for starters his father was fairly abusive, which would lead to his extreme behavior. Second, he actually read anti-Jew magazines before he even started campaigning for office. Thirdly, do you EVEN know what the guy did before he started campainging? Well I’ll tell you…
…he was a hobo.

Now if you picked some random hobo, who had happened to be reading anti white magazines, and had had an abusive father, what would you expect the outcome to be?

“Now you might be asking, why do you say genius, where the H*** do you get that from?”
Well I’ll tell you…and don’t curse, it makes you seem like an idiot. He was an incredible speaker, I am thoroughly convinced that if he had been saved (at ANY point) he would have been a positive hero, people by the hundreds would have come to Christ. Now aside from that, think about it, the guy took one of the smallest countries on this PLANET (let alone the fact that it had been divided), and came close to conquring the entire world. It takes nothing short of smarts to pull that one off.

Now at this point, you’re going, “how did we go from motives to Hitler. Kind of fell off the charts Samuel.”
WOooOOO there Bessy, you’re getting ahead of the author, and you’re obviously losing your patience. So how about I summarize and rap up?

Hitler is mis-judged, simply because a lack of understanding in his motive.” The guy was insane,” yes. “The guy killed hundreds”, yes. “The guy deserved to die, yes”. BUT why?
“WHAT DO YOU MEAN WHY! The guys killed hundreds!”
Why?
“WHY, BECAUSE HE WAS INSANE!”
Why?

A lost language

Εάν ο Κύριος όπου δημιουργήθηκε και μια δεύτερη Αγία Γραφή θα είναι σε αυτό;

I stated this a little while ago in class, and I truly believe it touched me like no other. This world is lost, I’m probably a perfect example of one who would be lost if it wasn’t for Jesus. I sit here listening to this artist sing in Swedish about suicide, it’s a very touching song, and it shocks me…he’s doing the same thing I’m doing. It brings tears to my eyes, he’s simply speaking his mind.
He sings:
Jag blir så full när sommaren är här, i morgon är jag fylld med bakfull, ångest och elände.

It brings sadness to my heart when I hear those words. He goes on to sing more…explicit/depressing lyrics, but for the sake of my audience, I won’t speak my mind.

Don’t you get it people? We are to touch this world, in a way that has never before been seen. That’s why I write key parts in another language, because it maintains the sanctity of the statement, and ideally it forces my readers to jump on google translate and figure it out themselves.

I can’t help but continue to listen to this song, it is like a drama, he sings sadness, he sings hurt, pain, suffering. The song in his heart is not one of joy. For the sake of proving my point, I will upload the song, but it is in Swedish, and I do NOT suggest looking up the lyrics, as they can be…both depressing and explicit.

Shake the world, or you WILL be forgotten.
